A call for historical detectives

A call for historical detectives

Re:connection Dorchester – a call for historical detectives

We are currently searching for feasibility study funding, and need volunteers to do some basic historical research on several town centre premises. This will be helpful in choosing suitable space for further investigation and funding bids, and developing an operational business plan. We’d like to know things such as previous functions, building and site changes and ownerships and so on. Stories about individuals and events always bring buildings to life too.

Dorset History Centre have kindly offered to provide a training/briefing session and support for volunteers in their research and in using the county archives.

The session will be on Saturday 7th February from 1000-1200 at the History Centre on Bridport Road. This will include a briefing on the hub project, background information and basic information about research methods, and a tour of the centre (for those who are not already volunteering there). Spaces are limited to 12 participants. If you are interested and have some time for this, please email rob.hattersley@reconnection.org.uk to express your interest or to ask for more information.

We would like the research to take place in the following few weeks, concluding around the middle of April. It’s likely we will schedule a further follow-up session.
